Signal Processing Advances in Robots and Autonomy

چکیده
The capabilities of robots and autonomous systems have increased dramatically over the past years. This success story partly depends on advances in signal processing which provide appropriate and efficient analysis of sensor data and enable autonomy. A key element of the transition of signal processing output to its exploitation inside robots and autonomous systems is the way uncertainty is managed: uncertainty originating from insufficient sensor data, uncertainty about effects of future autonomous actions, and, in the case of distributed sensors and actuators (like for a team of robots), uncertainty about communication lines. The aim of this special issue is to focus on recent developments that allow passing this transition path successfully, showing either where signal processing is used in robotics and autonomy or where robotics and autonomy had special demands that had not been fulfilled by signal processing before. The articles in this special issue cover the following topics.

Advances in autonomy for small UGVs
Many advances have been made in autonomy for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) but most of these advances have been for large UGVs only, in that the sensors required for autonomy are typically large, heavy and require a significant amount of power. Because of the size, weight and power restrictions imposed by a man-portable UGV advances in autonomy have been very limited. The SPAWAR Systems Cente...
متن کاملAre Autonomous Mobile Robots Able to Take Over Construction? A Review
Although construction has been known as a highly complex application field for autonomous robotic systems, recent advances in this field offer great hope for using robotic capabilities to develop automated construction. Today, space research agencies seek to build infrastructures without human intervention, and construction companies look to robots with the potential to improve construction qua...
متن کاملFacial Expression Recognition Based on Anatomical Structure of Human Face
Automatic analysis of human facial expressions is one of the challenging problems in machine vision systems. It has many applications in human-computer interactions such as, social signal processing, social robots, deceit detection, interactive video and behavior monitoring. In this paper, we develop a new method for automatic facial expression recognition based on facial muscle anatomy and hum...
متن کاملEfficiency of Target Location Scenarios in the Multi-Transmitter Multi-Receiver Passive Radar
Multi-transmitter multi-receiver passive radar, which locates target in the surveillance area by the reflected signals of the available opportunistic transmitter from the target, is of interest in many applications. In this paper, we investigate different signal processing scenarios in multi-transmitter multi-receiver passive radar. These scenarios include decentralized processing of reference ...
متن کاملA New Intelligent Approach to Patient-cooperative Control of Rehabilitation Robots
This paper presents a new intelligent method to control rehabilitation robots by mainly considering reactions of patient instead of doing a repetitive preprogrammed movement. It generates a general reference trajectory based on different reactions of patient during therapy. Three main reactions has been identified and included in reference trajectory: small variations, force shocks in a single ...
